The Neon Workshop

Lightwriters Neon currently offers instruction in the art and science of neon glass bending and artistic lampworking at many venues including our glass studio in Northbrook, Illinois. The Northbrook sessions are presented on a one on one basis at a level determined by the student.

The sessions are tailored to meet the needs and time constraints of each student .Local folks usually attend lessons once or twice a week while people who travel from afar stay for one or two weeks for a longer intensive study.

A typical day consists of one to five hours of instruction with the remainder of the day set aside for practice time at no aditional cost.

Workshops and demonstrations can also be arranged for presentation at other venues including schools, libraries, and commercial shops.

Most of the class time is dedicated to the skill of shaping glass with fire, however topics can vary widely as needed by the student. Other topics include; designing, processing, mounting, and finishing. Repairs and maintenence are also frequently included..
Call Jacob Fishman to arrange a date to begin, or set up a to time to meet and check out the studio.

Class Project from Penland's 1st Neon Workshop
I started presenting glass workshops back in '82. These workshops featured traditional neon sign making techniques and elements of illuminated sculpture

.Since that time I put together many traveling seminars for artists and sign makers. Some of the best were at the Penland School of Crafts.
